How to verify whether there is a hardware issue of TP-Link Powerline Adapters

Note: Please check the light status according to the Quick Installation Guide at first.

Below we list some common problems you may encounter.

No LED on at all

  1. Confirm whether you have enabled LED control function ( Not all the Powerline Adapters supports this feature)
  2. Change another outlet to plug it
  3. Hold the reset button/hole to hard reset it according to the QIG

Conclusion: There is still no LED light on, please email TP-Link Technical Support with the model number, serial number, hardware version and proof of purchase to get a replacement.

Ethernet led does not come on

  1. Ensure that there is a device connected to the Ethernet ports
  2. Change another Ethernet cable
  3. Change another device

Conclusion: Still the same, the powerline adapter may be faulty. Please email TP-Link Technical Support with the model number, serial number, hardware version and proof of purchase to get a replacement.

Wireless led does not come on if the powerline adapter supports Wi-Fi function

  1. Hold the Wi-Fi button to turn on the Wi-Fi function per the guidance on QIG
  2. Hold the reset button/hole to hard reset it according to the QIG

Conclusion: Still the same, please email TP-Link Technical Support with the model number, serial number, hardware version and proof of purchase to get a replacement.

Powerline led does not come on

Which means Powerline devices have not established yet, it’s not a hardware issue.

  1. Move them into the same room and plug them into the wall sockets directly
  2. Refer to How to secure (pair) the Powerline Network to pair them via pair button https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/258/
  3. Refer  to How to add a device to the network using tpPLC Utility (new logo) to pair them via tpPLC utility https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1615/
  4. Hold the reset button/hole to hard reset it according to the QIG

All the LEDs are off except the power led is flashing

  1. Change another outlet to plug it
  2. Hold the Wi-Fi button to turn on the Wi-Fi function if the powerline adapter supports Wi-Fi function
  3. Change another device or ethernet cable
  4. Hold the reset button/hole to hard reset it according to the QIG

Conclusion: If it cannot be fixed, please email TP-Link Technical Support with the model number, serial number, hardware version and proof of purchase to get a replacement.
