Configuration

To get started, make sure your Tapo camera is set up and online. Here we take Tapo camera as an example.

Step 1: Connect your Tapo/Kasa Account with Google Account

Before streaming, you need to connect Tapo/Kasa account with Google Account. This FAQ about Works with Google can help you link the Tapo Account to Google Home.

Please follow the guide to set up the cameras’ name and place in Google Home. It can be used in the next step.

Note: We recommend giving your camera a unique name and avoiding random letters or symbols. This will help you precisely control the device during voice commands.

Step 2: Stream on Chromecast Device/Google Hub

After configuring Tapo Camera to Google Home, you can find these cameras on Google Home Hub or Displayer with Chromecast.

Now, you can control them via Google Assistant to watch the live view on Chromecast or Google Hub. You can simply use voice command to start/stop streaming: Hey Google, show me <Camera Name>.

Suppose you have multiple devices with Google Assistant. In that case, you can use voice command to display the camera’s live view on a specific device: Hey Google, show me <Camera Name> on Chromecast/Google Hub.

QA

Q1: Why can't I watch live streams from Tapo/Kasa Cameras on Google Home app?

A1: Live view is not supported in the Google Home app. In Google Home’s Public Preview, it provides an under-development feature to access live streams for Works with Google Home cameras. This feature isn't available for all cameras, including Tapo cameras, so please wait for a future update from Google.

Q2: Why can’t I watch the live streaming continuously on a Chromecast device/Google Hub?

A2: Watching the live feed of Tapo/Kasa cameras through Google Assistant will use your internet traffic, as it’s a Cloud-to-Cloud service. In consideration of your extranet traffic and performance, the live feed will stop automatically after 10 minutes. However, you can ask Google to show the camera again if you want to continue streaming.
