Recent updates may have expanded access to feature(s) discussed in this FAQ. Visit your product's support page, select the correct hardware version for your device, and check either the Datasheet or the firmware section for the latest improvements added to your product. Please note that product availability varies by region, and certain models may not be available in your region.
Isolating your devices is a great way to keep your network and data secure from unauthorized access. By doing so, you can effectively mitigate the impact of malware attacks or breaches, limiting their reach to only a few devices. Moreover, specific IoT devices can monopolize your network's bandwidth, leading to slower performance for everything else.
However, by isolating these devices, you can guarantee that they won't affect the performance of other devices on your home network. This will enable your router to manage and allocate bandwidth more efficiently, providing you with the best possible experience across all your devices!
Note: Ensure your Deco or Archer Router supports the Device Isolation feature and update its firmware if necessary.
For Deco Mesh Systems
You can isolate devices using the following steps:
1. Open the Deco app. Go to the Security tab and tap Device Isolation.
2. Tap Isolate Devices. Then tap + to add the devices you want to be isolated from your primary network.
Then, the device will appear in the Isolated Devices list. While isolated, the devices can still access the internet and communicate with other isolated devices. However, isolated devices cannot transfer data with devices on your home network, including managing gateway devices, accessing USB devices, etc.
For TP-Link Archer Routers
You can access the Device Isolation from the Tether app or the web management page.
On the Tether app:
1. Go to the Security tab and tap Device Isolation. Or go to the More tab and tap Advanced Settings > Device Isolation.
or
2. Tap Add Devices and select the devices you want to be isolated from your primary network.
While isolated, the devices can still access the internet and can communicate with other isolated devices. However, isolated devices cannot transfer data with devices on your home network, including managing gateway devices, accessing USB devices, etc.
From your router’s web management page:
1. Visit http://tplinkwifi.net and log in with your TP-Link ID or the password you set for the router.
2. Go to Advanced > Security > Device Isolation and enable Device Isolation.
3. Click + Add to add the devices you want to be isolated from your primary network.
Done! While isolated, the devices can still access the internet and communicate with other isolated devices. However, isolated devices cannot transfer data with devices on your home network, including managing gateway devices, accessing USB devices, etc.
