Introduction

This article provides troubleshooting when the Baby Detection features are not working.

Requirement

Download the Tapo App by visiting the Google Play Store, the App Store, or by scanning the QR code.

Download the Tapo App.

Troubleshooting

Scenario 1: Visual Detection features are not working, including Covered Face/Safety Fence/Baby Leave Detection, and Visitor Detection

  • Install the camera between 0.5 and 1.2 meters from your baby to ensure a clear, unobstructed view.
  • Turn off the Tracking feature, as it may cause inaccuracies due to frequent changes in the camera's field of view.
  • Increase the detection sensitivity to ensure a better detection experience.

For instance, Covered Face Detection features three sensitivity levels, enabling it to detect incidents involving varying degrees of facial obstruction, and is recommended for use when the baby is asleep or when there are no external obstructions.

In particular, for Safety Fence Detection, avoid drawing the safety fence near the edges of the frame to monitor the baby's activity range effectively.

Safety Fence Detection usage Recommendations.

Note: Due to environmental influences and the inherent limitations of visual detection algorithms, baby sleep detection may not consistently achieve perfect accuracy. A certain degree of error is normal. If you frequently experience missed detections or false alerts, please share the alert video with our Support team for further assistance.

Scenario 2: Baby Crying Detection is not working

  • Increase the detection sensitivity through the camera’s Live View page > Device Settings > Detection.
  • Raise the microphone volume.

Raise microphone volume.

  • Ensure the mic hole is not blocked by dirt, and clean the surface dirt appropriately.
  • Move the camera closer to the baby.

Note: If the baby crying detection is too sensitive and frequently triggers false alarms, please lower the sensitivity.

QA

Q1: What AI smart alert functions does Tapo C840 have for babies?

A1: Tapo C840 is equipped with a rich set of AI functions specifically designed for baby monitoring, including: Baby Crying Detection, Sleep Detection, Covered Face Detection, Safety Fence Detection, Visitor Detection, and Baby Leave Detection.

Q2: Do the AI Detection features collect user information and upload it to TP-Link's servers?

A2: No, the AI Detection features operate locally on the camera using its onboard algorithms. This means that no user data, such as facial recognition information, is uploaded to our servers. The camera processes the data on-device to ensure privacy.

However, if you subscribe to our Tapo Care service, your detection snapshots and videos will be stored on our secure cloud servers. Rest assured, all data transmission and storage are strictly encrypted to protect your information and prevent any unauthorized access.

Q3: Can Visitor Detection distinguish between family members and strangers? Does it automatically record when an alert is triggered?

A3: Currently, Visitor Detection function triggers when anyone other than the baby enters the monitoring area. It cannot distinguish specific identities at this time. If Detection Event Recording is enabled in your recording settings, the camera will automatically record a video when Visitor Detection is triggered.
