A wireless channel determines which operating frequency will be in use. It is not necessary to change 5GHz wireless channel unless if you encounter a problem that your range extender is unable to detect your 5GHz wireless network of your root router during its configuration. The situation happens because of DFS.

Brief introduction of DFS function

To solve the problem efficiently, it’s recommended to change the 5GHz wireless channel of your router to band 1, which includes channels 36,40,44,48. Or you may try to disable DFS on your main router.
