How to set Area Code on TP-Link DSL Modem Router

Introduction

This FAQ article provides step-by-step instructions for configuring the Area Code function on TP-Link DSL modem router. This feature automatically adds the area code when making calls, so you don’t need to dial the full international format for local calls.

Requirements

• VX800v(DE) v1 or VX231v(DE) v1
• A device connected to the router

Configuration

Step 1. Refer How to log in to web management page of TP-Link DSL Modem Router to log in to the web interface of the DSL Modem Router.

Step 2. Navigate to Advanced > Telephony > Telephone Number and find the Area Code Settings.

Note: We recommend that users who make calls to a single area enable this function. After enabling this function, all the calls you make will be prefixed with the Area code.

Turn on the Status and enter the Area Code according to your situation(such as 04934202). Click Save to save the configuration.

By entering the country code and area code in the settings, you can make local calls without dialing the full international format. However, when calling numbers in other countries or regions, you still need to include the complete country and area codes.

Step 3. After saving your configuration, your settings are applied correctly, and you can make calls without entering the Area Code.

Q1: What to do if calls cannot be made after setting the Area Code on TP-Link DSL Modem Router?

A1: Check for incorrect Area Code or country code duplication.

• Please check your local area code and update it to the correct one.
• If country code “+49” or "049" is used in Area Code and also in registered numbers as “+49” or "049", remove “+49” or "049" from registered numbers.

• Click the Modify icon in Telephone Numbers section to adjust the number format.
