This guide covers how to change the TP-Link device password used to log in to your device's admin panel. This is not the same as your network device password. If you need to find or change your Wi-Fi password instead, please see that FAQ. This guide covers two methods: the web management page and the Tether app. It applies to TP-Link routers, Deco systems, range extenders, and other home network devices.

Key Takeaways

  • To change the admin password on a TP-Link router, log in to the web management page at tplinkwifi.net or 192.168.0.1, then go to Advanced > System > Administration.
  • You can also change the password through the Tether app by going to More > System > Manage Password (or Tools > System > Login Account).
  • You must know the current password to set a new one.
  • If you have forgotten your current password, you will need to either use Password Recovery via TP-Link ID or perform a factory reset to regain access.
  • The admin login password is separate from your Wi-Fi network password.

Before You Begin

You will need one of the following: a computer with a web browser, or a smartphone or tablet with the Tether app or tpMiFi app installed from the Google Play Store or App Store. Make sure your TP-Link device is powered on and has fully rebooted before you start.

To identify your device type, type your model number into the search box on the TP-Link website. The product category shown in the results will tell you which section below to follow.
