General Questions about the Powerline or PLC Backhaul Feature of Deco
Deco P7 (AC1300+AV600) and Deco P9 (AC1200+AV1000) have a built-in powerline chipset, which provides a feature called Powerline/PLC Backhaul.
Note: Currently, only Deco P9 and Deco P7 support the Powerline/PLC Backhaul feature.
Q1: How to enable the Powerline Backhaul feature?
Powerline Backhaul doesn't need to be turned on by any hardware or software switch. After two or more powerline Deco units are configured successfully via the Deco app, Powerline Backhaul will take effect automatically as long as they are under the same power grid.
Note: When Deco P7/P9 works with other Deco models, the PLC Backhaul feature will only take effect when P7/P9 is used as the Main Deco.
Q2: Does the PLC Backhaul feature take effect between Deco P7/P9 and other powerline products?
The PLC Backhaul feature only takes effect between Deco powerline products in the same Deco network. Currently, PLC Backhaul doesn’t take effect between the Deco P7/P9 and other powerline products.
Q3: Can Deco work with the powerline product?
Deco can work with the powerline product if the powerline connection doesn’t block any data flow.
Please note that the Deco P7/P9 can't pair with the powerline devices and then build a PLC backhaul.
The typical topology is modem ---- main Deco ---- Powerline unit~~~Powerline unit ---- Satellite Deco.
In this topology, Deco units build an Ethernet backhaul through the powerline connection.
Q4: Can PLC Backhaul, Ethernet Backhaul and Wi-Fi Backhaul work at the same time?
PLC Backhaul and Wi-Fi Backhaul can work at the same time, while PLC Backhaul and Ethernet Backhaul can’t.
If there is no Ethernet cable between the Deco units, Wi-Fi Backhaul and PLC Backhaul will take effect at the same time.
If there is an Ethernet cable between the Deco units, then only Ethernet Backhaul will take effect.
Q5: How to know if PLC Backhaul is established successfully?
1. Deco P7
From the PLC indicator on the power adapter, we can know whether PLC Backhaul is working or not.
If the indicator is solid orange, it means the PLC Backhaul connection is bad or even fail to connect. In this case, please refer to Q6 for help.
If the indicator is solid green, it means the PLC Backhaul connection is good enough.
2. Deco P9
There is no LED light on the Deco P9 to indicate the working status of PLC Backhaul, however, on the Deco app, you can click on the Internet icon at the Overview page, then tap the satellite Deco P9 to check if the PLC backhaul is established or not.
Q6: What Can I do if PLC Backhaul is not working (The LED indicator on the power adapter is orange)?
1. Make sure all the Deco P7/P9 units are under the same power grid.
2. Connect the Deco P7/P9 to a different power socket. Use the wall socket rather than the extension socket.
3. It is recommended to put two Deco units within a distance of 100 meters. In addition, please keep the Deco units far away from some high-power appliances to avoid the possible interference.
