Introduction

Firmware updates ensure your Tapo/Kasa smart devices run smoothly, deliver improved performance and enhanced stability, and include the latest features. This FAQ provides steps to follow when your device fails to update its firmware, helping you quickly troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Troubleshooting

Step 1. Restart Devices: Power cycle your router and the smart device.

Step 2. Check Network Connection: Move the device closer to the router for a better connection.

Step 3. Use Mobile Hotspot: If needed, connect the device to your phone's hotspot and try the upgrade again.

Step 4. For Hub and sub-devices: For devices like Tapo C420 and sensors that use a hub, place them near the hub to ensure a strong connection and improve the connection stability.

QA

Q1: Why do some of my Tapo/Kasa devices update to the latest firmware while others of the same model do not?

A1: Our firmware updates are released progressively, meaning that if you have multiple devices of the same model, it's normal for some devices to receive the update while others may not detect the new firmware yet. This process typically takes a few weeks to a month.

If you prefer not to wait, you can enable the Auto Update feature under Device Settings > Firmware Update. This will ensure that your devices automatically update to the latest firmware once the rollout is complete.
