How to prevent water ingress damage to Tapo Outdoor Cameras

Introduction

This article provides step-by-step instructions to ensure your outdoor camera is waterproof.

Installation

Part 1. Tapo Outdoor Wired Camera

Step 1. Install the Waterproof Seal for Power Connectors

• When the camera is powered by the adapter, install the waterproof seal for the power connectors.

• When the camera is powered by PoE, use the waterproof cap to cover the power adapter.

Step 2. Install the waterproof cable attachments for the network interface.

• When the Ethernet port connects to a network device: Route the network cable through the following components in order: fix nut, waterproof ring, and Female Power Connector, then the waterproof jacket. Then insert the waterproof ring into the waterproof jacket, secure the O-ring to the camera's network interface, and connect the network cables. Finally, attach the network interface to the waterproof jacket, then twist to lock. Rotate the fix nut to secure it to the waterproof jacket.

• When the Ethernet port does not connect to a network device: Insert the waterproof plug into the waterproof ring, then insert it into the waterproof jacket. And fix the O-ring to the camera's network interface. Then attach the network interface to the waterproof jacket, and finally twist to lock and rotate the fix nut to secure it to the waterproof jacket.

Note: Make sure each part is securely attached and the waterproof rings are flush to keep water out.

Part 2. Tapo Outdoor Wire-Free Cameras

Step 1. Please ensure the Type-C/Micro USB/microSD card slot silicone plug is securely tightened if you don’t connect a solar panel to charge the camera.

Step 2. Please ensure the waterproof gasket is firmly installed in the camera's charging port before connecting a solar panel to charge the camera.

If you are going to charge the camera indoors or disconnect it from the solar panel, please remove and store the solar panel indoors as well. Do not leave the solar panel's charging connector exposed outdoors.
