Redefining Home Entry: New Tapo Palm Access Smart Lock Now Available in Canada

Redefining Home Entry: New Tapo Palm Access Smart Lock Now Available in Canada
Offering Palm Vein Recognition, Local Biometric Storage, and Remote Access via the Tapo App

Toronto, ON — (August 4, 2026) — Today Tapo, the consumer smart home brand from TP-Link, announced the Canadian launch of their DL130 Palm Access Smart Lock,  the most advanced entry device in the Tapo lineup. With this launch, Tapo continues to push the boundaries of what a smart home can do, turning everyday home security into something that feels genuinely future-forward.

The Wi-Fi-enabled smart deadbolt reads the unique vein pattern beneath the skin of a person's palm,  a biometric signature so precise that even identical twins don't share one. Unlike a fingerprint or a face, it cannot be lifted, photographed, or spoofed with a mask or 3D model, giving homeowners a level of certainty that's simply been out of reach for residential locks until now.

"The front door is the first line of defense in home security, and until now, most locks haven't kept pace with the threats they're meant to stop," said Benjamin Liu, General Manager at TP-Link Canada Inc. "Palm vein recognition changes that. It's a key that is truly yours and impossible to fake. With the DL130, we're giving Canadians a smarter, more secure way to manage who gets into their home, with full visibility and control right from the Tapo app."

A New Standard for Smart Locks
The DL130  DuoBiometrics™ system features palm and fingerprint access and combines on-device biometric storage and built-in Wi-Fi. Designed for everyone, from kids to grandparents, as well as hands that are wet, dirty, or even gloved, its advanced sensors read clearly in bright sun or total darkness, so the lock performs the same at morning or midnight.

While many smart locks lean on cloud-based biometric storage, the DL130 addresses privacy concerns by encrypting and storing every palm and fingerprint scan directly on the device using AES-128 encryption, nothing is ever uploaded, meaning there's no cloud database of biometric data for anyone to breach. The DL130 also connects natively to the wider Tapo ecosystem, working alongside Tapo cameras, video doorbells and sensors so homeowners get one unified view of who's coming and going, not just a lock, but a complete front-door security system.

    Convenience Without Compromise
With built-in Wi-Fi, homeowners can lock or unlock the door from virtually anywhere, confirm its status at a glance, and scroll through a complete access log in the Tapo app. Need to let the dog walker in on Tuesdays, or give a guest one-time access for the weekend? One-time and scheduled PIN codes make it effortless, while automatic locking takes the guesswork out of securing the door once it closes. A built-in doorbell means visitors can simply ring in, and if someone tries  and fails to get in repeatedly, the lock locks them out and pings the homeowner's phone instantly.

Engineered to Never Leave You Locked Out
The DL130's is built to handle whatever Canadian weather throws at it, backed by IP65 weather resistance. Its dual-battery design allows the lock to keep running while its main battery charges with a single charge lasting over a year.

As Canadians increasingly embrace connected living, demand is growing for smart home solutions that deliver real security, not just convenience. With seven unlock methods, broad smart home compatibility, and a system that reads your unique biometrics, the Tapo DL130 proves that the smartest home security can be as simple, and as personal, as the palm of your hand.

The Tapo DL130 Palm Access Smart Lock is now available at select retailers across Canada. To learn more, visit Tapo.
