Part 1: Basic Information

Q1. What are the Smart Actions (Automation and Shortcuts) of my Tapo device

A1:

  • Shortcut lets you achieve an action with a simple tap.

For example, when you are ready for bed, you can turn off your smart devices for safety and dim your lights for better sleep with one simple tap.

  • Automation allows you to set interactions between your smart devices by adding triggers, conditions, and actions.

For example, if the smart camera detects motion (a trigger), the living room light will turn on (an action).

Q2. Can I set up Smart Actions between Tapo and Kasa devices in the Tapo app?

A2: With Tapo app version 3.0 and later, you can integrate Kasa devices into the Tapo app, enabling you to manage both Kasa and Tapo devices within the Tapo ecosystem. Consequently, you can set up Smart Actions to create interactions between Kasa and Tapo devices. For more details about linking Kasa devices on the Tapo app, please refer to this FAQ: General questions about linking Kasa devices to Tapo App.

Q3. Can I set up Smart Actions between Tapo devices and other-brand devices in the Tapo app?

A3: The Smart Actions feature within the Tapo app is specifically designed to operate with Tapo or Kasa devices that have been configured through the Tapo app. It does not facilitate integration with devices from other brands.

Q4. How many Smart Actions can be created at most, and how many can be enabled simultaneously?

A4: You can create up to 128 Smart Action entries (including automation and shortcuts) with one Tapo account, and all 128 entries can be active at the same time. When an Automation entry includes multiple triggers, any one of those triggers can initiate the action.

Q5. What is the maximum number of Triggers/Conditions/Actions allowed in a single Automation or Shortcut?

A5: Each Automation can have a maximum of 20 Triggers/Conditions and 64 Actions. Each Shortcut can have a maximum of 64 Actions.

Q6. Can the result of one automation trigger another automation?

A6: To ensure the stability and reliability of your Tapo automation system, a Smart Action cannot be triggered by the execution results of another Automation or Shortcut.

Example:

  • Automation 1: At 10:00 PM, turn on the Living Room Plug.
  • Automation 2: When the Living Room Plug is turned on, turn on the Lane Light.

In this scenario, if the Living Room Plug is turned on by Automation 1, Automation 2 will not be triggered.

Part 2: Features

Q1. What does the If-Conditions feature do?

A1: The If-Conditions feature allows more complex automation logic. If you set up triggers and conditions for your automation, it will only take effect when any one of the triggers is met, and all the conditions are satisfied. For example, you can now achieve the following scenario with the If-Condition feature: when the sun goes down, turn on the front door lights if the door is open.

Q2. How can I customize the notification content?

A2: In the Then-Add Action section, select Send Me Notifications, edit the contents of the text box, and save. After the smart action is triggered, you will receive the customized notification.

Q3. Is it possible to delay the activation of a device for a certain period?

A3: Yes, In the Then-Add Action section, select Delay and set the time you want. Delay will be added to the Then-Add Action section as an Action; you can also drag Delay to adjust the order.

Q4. How do I use the app's built-in templates?

A4: Smart Action unlocks over 20 new templates for limitless lifestyle scenarios. Each template offers detailed scenario descriptions to help you choose the proper one. Tailored scenarios with in-template customizations for a hassle-free life. Go to Tapo app->Smart page; you will find recommended Shortcuts and Automation templates. Click on the template, follow the instructions to select your device, and save to quickly add your Smart Actions.

Q5. Can I trigger Tapo Shortcuts using Siri? How to use Widgets to control your Tapo Devices and Tapo Shortcuts

A5: Yes, go to Tapo app >Smart page >Shortcuts >Shortcuts Quick Control >Add to Siri, select the shortcut you want to control via Siri, save it, and then you can trigger the shortcut via Siri.

Q6. How can I check the Smart Actions associated with a particular device?

A6: You can check the device-related Smart Actions on its Status page now for ultra-convenience and easier management.
