How to prevent lithium battery swelling
MiFi products use lithium batteries. The life of MiFi batteries is closely related to daily usage habits. This article describes how to extend the life of your batteries as much as possible while using MiFi products safely.
1. Avoid Overcharging: Overcharging is one of the primary causes of battery swelling. Our MiFi product has overcharge protection. Once the device is fully charged, it will stop charging. However, we still recommend avoiding keeping it connected to the charger for extended periods during long-term use.
2. Mind the Operating Temperature: Lithium batteries perform optimally within a specific temperature range, typically between 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F). Exposure to extreme temperatures can cause damage and lead to swelling. Avoid leaving devices in hot or cold environments, such as a car on a sunny day.
3. Use Appropriate Chargers: Please use the charger that meets the requirements marked on the MiFi device label to charge.
Note: Using a universal charger to charge the MiFi device battery will reduce battery life.
4. Regular Inspections: Make it a habit to check your devices’ batteries periodically. Look for any signs of swelling or damage. If you notice physical changes, stop using the device immediately.
5. Correct Storage: If you need to store your battery or device for an extended period, ensure it’s in a cool, dry place. It is recommended to charge regularly (every 1-2 months) and to charge to about 60% before long-term storage. This practice helps maintain healthy battery chemistry.
6. Know When to Replace: Batteries have a finite lifespan. If you experience diminished performance or unusual swelling or find that your device shuts off unexpectedly even when charged, it’s time to consider a replacement. Continuing to use a compromised battery can be hazardous.
