A smarter way to secure the home: Meet TP-Link’s solar-powered 4K Tapo C660 KIT

Sydney, Australia - 28 January 2026 - TP-Link has launched the Tapo C660 KIT, a solar-powered outdoor security camera designed to deliver 24/7 continuous capture, intelligent 360° AI tracking and 4K clarity, without wiring, frequent charging or complex installation.

Built for modern homes and Australian conditions, the Tapo C660 KIT combines ultra-high-definition video, smart detection and flexible solar-powered installation, offering a low-maintenance way to stay connected to what’s happening around the home, day and night.

    Clearer vision, day and night

At the heart of the system is a 4K Ultra HD (8MP) camera with 18x digital zoom, capturing sharp detail that makes it easier to identify people, pets and vehicles.

For night-time monitoring, starlight colour night vision, an F1.6 large-aperture lens and built-in spotlights help maintain colour and clarity in low-light conditions, rather than relying solely on black-and-white infrared footage. A motorised pan and tilt design provides 360° coverage, reducing blind spots around the property.

AI-powered detection allows the camera to recognise and track people, pets and vehicles in real time, while customisable activity zones help ensure alerts are limited to the areas that matter most.

    Solar-powered security that runs itself

Designed to remove the friction of traditional outdoor cameras, the Tapo C660 KIT is powered by a dedicated solar panel and a 10,000mAh rechargeable battery. Just 45 minutes of direct sunlight can power a full day of operation*, with the battery providing backup during cloudy periods.

With an IP65 weather-resistant rating, the camera is engineered to perform through rain, dust and changing outdoor conditions. Installation is equally flexible, with the option to mount the solar panel separately or combine it with the camera using a 3.8-metre cable, making it suitable for areas where power points aren’t practical.

    Designed for everyday convenience

The Tapo C660 KIT supports dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz), allowing users to prioritise range or speed depending on their home network. It supports continuous capture via a low-frame background recording mode, with full-quality recording automatically triggered when motion is detected.

Additional features include two-way audio for speaking with visitors or delivery drivers, a built-in sound and light alarm designed to help deter unwanted activity, voice-activated viewing via Amazon Alexa and Google Home, and flexible storage options with local microSD support up to 512GB or TP-Link’s optional cloud service.

Part of the broader Tapo C6 Series

    • The Tapo C660 KIT sits at the top of TP-Link’s Tapo C6 Series of outdoor battery cameras, designed to suit different homes, budgets and security needs.
    • The range includes solar-powered and battery-operated pan and tilt cameras, offering flexible installation across a variety of outdoor spaces.
    • Options such as the Tapo C615F floodlight camera provide additional lighting and security features, allowing homeowners to choose the right balance of coverage, functionality and deployment for their property.

Neville Wang, Managing Director at TP-Link Australia and New Zealand, said the Tapo C660 KIT was developed to reflect how Australians are rethinking home security, prioritising flexibility, reliability and ease of use over complex installations.

He said, “Home security shouldn’t demand constant attention. Too often, outdoor cameras promise peace of mind but end up creating more work through wiring, charging and ongoing maintenance. We saw a clear opportunity to simplify that experience without compromising on performance.”

“With the Tapo C660 KIT, we focused on delivering clear 4K footage, intelligent detection and solar-powered operation that can run day after day in real outdoor conditions. It’s designed to be installed where it’s needed, stay powered with minimal effort, and give people confidence that their home is being monitored, whether they’re inside, away or asleep.”

    Availability

The Tapo C660 KIT is available now in Australia via TP-Link and selected retailers.
