TP-Link Introduces the First Wi-Fi 6 Range Extender to Its RE Portfolio

Shenzhen, China Dec. 31, 2019 – TP-Link, the world's leading customer and business products provider, today announced the launch of the first Wi-Fi 6 (also known as AX Wi-Fi) range extender with OneMeshTM technology — RE505X. Different from the previous RE products powered by 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5), RE505X takes advantage of next generation Wi-Fi technology — 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) which is designed to boost speed, improve efficiency, and reduce congestion in heavy bandwidth scenarios. Now, RE505X is available in most leading retailers both online and offline.

More than a traditional Wi-Fi range extender

RE505X is able to work with any Wi-Fi router to eliminate Wi-Fi dead zones and creates a Mesh network by connecting to a OneMeshTM router for seamless whole-home coverage.

    Up to 1.5 Gbps Wi-Fi 6 speed

Equipped with the latest Wi-Fi 6 technology, 1024-QAM (higher efficiency) and a wider channel (160 MHz compared to the 80 MHz on Wi-Fi 5), the RE505X range extender delivers wireless speeds greatly surpassing what was previously available.

    Larger Capacity

Wi-Fi 6 enhances average throughput 4×, allowing it to serve more devices and provide a superior online experience.

    Ultra-low latency

RE505X significantly reduces wireless latency by utilizing OFDMA technology which allows the network to deliver more data to multiple devices, rather than just delivering data to one device at a time. This vast improvement in efficiency now works for both upload and download.

    Easy-to-use app

The TP-Link Tether app provides clear directions and simple visuals, making setup fast and easy. Network control and management are available remotely through the app.

    Access point mode

RE505X can work as an access point that acts as a portal for devices to connect to the local network. The access point mode is used to extend the wireless coverage of an existing router and to increase the number of users that can connect to it. Also, an Ethernet cable runs from a router to an access point, which transforms the wired signal into a wireless one.

    Key features

    • Maximum Speed: 1200 Mbps on a 5 GHz band and 300 Mbps on a 2.4 GHz band.
    • Uninterrupted Streaming: OneMeshTM technology allows RE505X to connect with other mesh Wi-Fi products to create a seamless mesh network.
    • Wi-Fi Dead-Zone Killer: cooperating with an existing router to expand Wi-Fi coverage, eliminates Wi-Fi dead-zones once and for all.
    • Easy Setup and Management: the Tether app walks you through setup and makes management a breeze.
    • WPS (secure one-touch connection): instantly connect the extender to a router by just pressing the WPS button.
    • Gigabit Ethernet port: plug in to give wired device network access, especially for bandwidth-intensive devices.
    • Adaptive Path Selection: keep your network running at top speed by automatically choosing the fastest connection path with Wi-Fi capability.
