How to Reset Tapo Light Strip

Further Assistance
Last updated: May 21, 2026

There are two types of reset available: a soft reset which resets the Wi-Fi settings only, and a factory reset that erases all of your settings and restore to factory defaults.

Soft Reset

Press and hold the button on your controller for more than 5 seconds but no more than 10 seconds and release. The light strip animating orange and green after that indicates a successful soft reset. Then you can reconfigure your light strip in Tapo app.

Factory Reset

Method 1: Via Control Button

Press and hold the button on the controller for at least 10 seconds, then release. Once the light strip animates in orange and green, the factory reset is successful. You can then reconfigure the light strip in the Tapo app. Note that some light strips may behave differently after a reset—for example, the Tapo L901 may flash three times. For specific details, refer to the model's User Guide.

Method 2: Via Tapo app

Note: This method only takes effect when the light strip has internet access.

Option 1: Open the Tapo app, then press and touch your light strip card. Then tap Remove at the bottom to remove your light strip. The light strip will be removed from your Tapo account and reset to the default settings.

Option 2: Open the Tapo app and tap on your light strip card. Tap the gear icon to go to the Settings page and tap Remove at the bottom to remove your light strip. The light strip will be removed from your Tapo account and reset to the default settings.
