Q1: What is a Matter Hub/Controller, and why is it needed?

Matter Bridge is a connectivity intermediary designed for the open, cross-platform Matter smart home standard. It acts as a protocol translator and gateway, connecting legacy smart devices without native Matter support to the unified Matter ecosystem.

A Matter Hub/Controller, like Apple TV, Alexa Echo 3rd Gen, or Google Nest Hub, is required to set up a Matter-enabled device with the corresponding smart home app.

Note: With iOS 18 or above, you can add Matter-enabled smart devices directly to the Apple Home app without setting up a Matter Hub.

However, without a Matter Hub, you won’t be able to control your Matter accessories remotely, share the control of the accessories with others, or automate the accessories in the Apple Home app.

Q2: How can I ensure a successful setup?

Make sure that your Tapo/Kasa Hub and your phone are connected to the same network. This allows for seamless communication during the setup process.

Q3: Are there any compatibility limitations with the Matter platform?

Yes, please take note of the following:

• Matter is not compatible with buttons, including Tapo S200B and Tapo S200D, currently. Stay tuned for later support.
• Tapo T300 water leak sensor connected to the Tapo H110 can be linked to the third-party hub via Matter. However, Tapo H100 compatibility is not yet available—stay tuned for later support.

Q4: How to use the Tapo Hub as a Matter Bridge

After adding a Tapo Hub to a third-party ecosystem, the Tapo Sub-1G devices connected to this hub (such as the Tapo T100, T310, T315, and S220) can be addedd to that ecosystem at the same time through the Tapo hub’s Matter Bridge feature.
