TP-Link Enhances Matter Compatibility with Energy Monitoring via Firmware Update
July 29, 2025 – TP-Link, a global leader in smart home and networking solutions, today announced a significant firmware update that enables Matter energy monitoring for its compatible smart devices. This upgrade reinforces TP-Link’s commitment to delivering seamless smart home experiences through open standards and user-focused innovation.
Bringing Advanced Energy Insights to Matter
The latest firmware update allows TP-Link’s Matter-certified devices to support standardized energy monitoring as defined in Matter 1.3, empowering users with real-time and historical energy consumption data. This enhancement ensures greater transparency and control over home energy usage while maintaining full interoperability with leading smart home ecosystems.
Tapo P110M First to Support via Firmware Update
All Matter-certified devices with energy monitoring will eventually support Matter energy monitoring functionality via firmware updates. Currently, the update is being rolled out first to the Tapo P110M – please ensure both the product and Hub are updated to the latest version. Note that at this stage, only SmartThings and Home Assistant Apps are compatible with the feature.
Why Now? Prioritizing Cross-Platform Reliability
As an early adopter of Matter and the first major brand to launch Matter-certified products, TP-Link has always emphasized stability and broad compatibility. While TP-Link completed Matter 1.3 certification as early as 2024, it is only now – driven by key industry developments – that TP-Link is enabling Matter’s energy monitoring functionality:
- Ecosystem Maturity: Although Matter 1.3 introduced energy monitoring in May 2024, all third-party platforms initially lacked full implementation. Even now, many major platforms still fail to support Matter energy monitoring functionality, risking inconsistent user experiences.
- Validation Requirements: TP-Link’s rigorous testing protocols require verified platform support to ensure reliable performance. Until recently, only Samsung SmartThings offered functional (though still evolving) Matter energy monitoring.
TP-Link Actively Promotes Third-Party Platform Support for Matter Energy Monitoring
TP-Link remains committed to close collaboration with major smart home platforms to drive full support for Matter energy monitoring functionality. We not only ensure our devices are fully compliant with the latest Matter specifications but also continuously engage in technical coordination and testing with platform providers. This guarantees that TP-Link's energy monitoring-enabled Matter devices can deliver complete power monitoring capabilities across all major ecosystems, demonstrating TP-Link's steadfast commitment to enhancing cross-platform user experiences.
