• Once the extender is mounted, it will be difficult to remove. Follow this Quick Installation Guide's steps carefully.

Passive PoE Adapter

1. Determine the Operation Mode and Power On
1.1 Access Point Mode (Recommended for Outdoor Use)
In Access Point (AP) Mode, the extender connects to the host router via a wired connection to provide a more stable Wi‑Fi signal for your devices.
1) Connect the extender to a PoE adapter or a PoE switch.
2) Power on the PoE adapter or PoE switch.
3) After finishing 2. Set Up the Extender, connect the main router to the PoE adapter or PoE switch.

1.2 Range Extender Mode
Range Extender (RE) Mode is the default mode. In RE Mode, the extender connects to the host router wirelessly and repeats its Wi‑Fi network to extend coverage.
1) Connect the extender to a PoE adapter.
2) Power on the PoE adapter.

2. Set Up the Extender
Method 1: Via the Tether App
1) Get the up-to-date Tether app from the App Store or Google Play, or simply scan the QR code.

2) Launch the Tether app and log in with your TP-Link ID. If you don’t have an account, create one first.
3) Tap the + button and select Add a Range Extender. Then tap What if my extender is an outdoor model?
Notes: If you cannot find your device, please refer to FAQ > Q1.

4) Follow the app instructions to complete setup. Select Access Point Mode (Recommended for Outdoor Use) or Repeater.

Notes:
If you cannot find the extender’s network, refer to FAQ > Q4.
You can go to Operation Mode to switch modes after finishing the Quick Setup.
Due to Tether app updates, your actual user interface and pathway may differ from those depicted here.
Method 2: Via a Web Browser
1) Connect your computer or smartphone to the extender’s network: TP-Link_Extender.
Notes: If you cannot find the extender’s network, refer to FAQ > Q4.
2) Open a web browser and go to http://www.tplinkrepeater.net or http://192.168.0.254. Create a password to log in.
3) Follow the on-screen instructions to complete setup. Select Access Point (Recommended for Outdoor Use) or Repeater based on your operation mode.
Method 3: Via the WPS Button (For Range Extender Mode Only)
1) Activate the WPS function on your router by pressing the WPS button.
Note: If you're not sure how to do this, refer to your router's user manual or use another setup method.
The WPS button may have descriptions like "Connect", "Pair" or similar ones printed around it. Or it might look like one of these:

2) Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on the extender for 1 second. The Signal LED should change from blinking to solid on, indicating a successful connection.

3) You can now connect to the extender’s Wi-Fi.

Router’s network name with _EXT at the end

Same as your router
Note: Compatibility issues may occur if the router does not fully support the WPS function. If you fail to complete the setup via the WPS Button, please try another method.
3. Relocate the Extender
Your extender’s performance depends on its location.
Before mounting the extender, follow the steps for your selected operation mode to make sure you find a spot with optimal coverage.
3.1 Access Point Mode (Recommended for Outdoor Use)
DO NOT MOUNT the extender until you finish Step 2 to confirm the mounting location. Once the extender is mounted, it will be difficult to remove.

Two main factors affect signal quality in AP Mode:
H: Height of the extender above the ground
D: Distance between extender and devices
Follow the steps below to test your signal and find the proper location.
Step 1:
Place the extender in an open, unobstructed area. Avoid dense trees, thick walls, large metal objects, or other signal‑blocking obstacles. Keep it away from potential interference sources such as other Wi‑Fi routers, surveillance cameras, and power generators.
Keep the extender at a proper height, then continue to Step 2.
Step 2:
At your desired Wi-Fi coverage zone, connect your phone to the extender and check if you can use Wi-Fi normally:
• Good signal: The mounting location in Step 1 is suitable, and you can start mounting.
• Poor signal: Try a new mounting location. Then repeat Steps 1 and 2.
3.2 Range Extender Mode
DO NOT MOUNT the extender until you finish Step 3 to confirm the mounting location. Once the extender is mounted, it will be difficult to remove.

Follow the steps below to test your signal and find the proper location.
Step 1:
Place the extender in an open, unobstructed area. Avoid dense trees, thick walls, large metal objects, or other signal‑blocking obstacles. Keep it away from potential interference sources such as other Wi‑Fi routers, surveillance cameras, and power generators.
At proper mounting locations, the extender's Signal LED should be solid green.
Step 2 (Optional):
If you want to find a location that can receive better signal from the router:
Connect your phone to the router and open a signal detection app (e.g., WiFi Analyzer). Test the router's signal strength at different distances (D1) and heights (H).
• Good signal (greater than or equal to -70dBm): Keep the extender at this location, then continue to Step 3.
Step 3:
At your desired Wi-Fi coverage zone, connect your phone to the extender and check if you can use Wi-Fi normally:
• Good signal: The location in Step 2 is suitable and you can start mounting.
• Poor signal: Try a new mounting location. Then repeat Steps 1-3.
• If the signal remains weak after several attempts, switch to AP Mode for better results.
4. Mount the Extender
Lightning and ESD Protection
Before mounting the extender, consider grounding the device for Lightning and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Protection.
Reduce the damage from potential lightning and ESD attacks by connecting the grounding terminal to a proper grounding facility. Use a grounding wire that meets local installation requirements.
Secure the wire to the terminal with pliers, then fasten the terminal to the extender’s grounding plate with a screw, as shown below.
Note: The grounding wire is not included in the product package. The grounding wire should be ≤16 AWG and compatible with M3 screws.

(Optional) Mount the PoE Adapter
Note: The passive PoE adapter is for indoor use only. It is not designed for outdoor conditions and offers no waterproof protection

Step 1: Remove the mounting bracket from the passive PoE adapter. Drill two holes in the wall and insert the plastic wall anchors into the holes. Secure the mounting bracket to the wall. Make sure the shoulders at the corners of the mounting bracket are on the outside and pointing up. |

Step 2: Attach the passive PoE adapter to the mounting bracket (for PoE Adapter) by sliding the adapter in the direction of the arrows until it locks into place. |

Step 3: 1) Connect the antennas to the extender. We recommend keeping the antennas vertical for optimal Wi-Fi performance. 2) Fit the Ethernet cable and the grounding wire through the waterproof cover plate (b) and rubber cover's (a) slit. Connect the cable to the PoE port. 3) Replace the rubber cover (a) and waterproof cover plate (b). Make sure the rubber cover (a) is fully seated and the waterproof cover plate (b) is locked flush with the device.

Step 4: Align the mounting tabs on the back of the extender with the mounting bracket's slot. Push and slide the extender down until it locks into place. |

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q1. What should I do if the Tether app cannot find my device during setup?
• Try another method by following the steps below:
1. Connect your smartphone to the extender’s network: TP-Link_Extender.
2. Launch the Tether app and select your extender.
Tip: If you have connected to the extender’s Wi-Fi but still cannot find your device, try turning off your mobile data.
3. Follow the app instructions to complete setup.

Q2. What should I do if the LED doesn’t turn solid on after completing setup via the Tether app or web browser?
• You may have entered an incorrect Wi-Fi password for your host router during the configuration. Check the password and try again.
• Make sure the extender is located away from large electrical appliances.
• If wireless MAC filtering, wireless access control, or an access control list (ACL) is enabled on your router, disable them first. Then use any setup method on the front page to complete configuration.
• Try setting up via the WPS button.
• Reset the extender and go through the configuration again.

Q3. How do I reset the extender?
• With the extender powered on, press the WPS/Reset button for over 6 seconds. The extender will reboot.
Q4. What should I do if I cannot find the extender's network TP-Link_Extender?
• The extender may have already joined the EasyMesh network successfully. Please try using the router's SSID and Password to connect.
1. If you want to use the Tether app to further set up the extender, select your extender in the app for configuration.
2. If you want to use a web browser to further set up the extender, log in to your router’s web interface to configure all mesh devices.
• If the extender did not join the EasyMesh network, please reset the extender and set it up again.
