What Should I Do if My VIGI Camera Is Not Detected
Contents
Introduction
When adding a VIGI camera to the network, the device may not appear in a VIGI management platform, such as VIGI App, VIGI NVR, VIGI PC Client, VIGI Cloud VMS, or VIGI Local VMS.
Requirements
- VIGI Cameras
- VIGI App, VIGI NVR, VIGI Config Tool, VIGI PC Client, VIGI Cloud VMS, or VIGI Local VMS
Troubleshooting
Follow the steps below in sequence to determine why the camera cannot be detected.
Step 1. Verify camera power and LED operation
- Ensure the camera is powered using either a 12 V DC adapter or PoE (IEEE 802.3af/at). During startup, the IR LED or White LED should briefly illuminate.
- Cover the camera's day/night sensor and check whether the IR LED turns on.
- Power cycle the camera by disconnecting and reconnecting the power supply.
- Verify that the IR LED or White LED briefly illuminates again during startup.
- If the camera is powered via PoE, ensure the PoE switch or injector supports IEEE 802.3af/at and can provide sufficient power for the camera.
Step 2. Check the physical network connection
- The camera should be connected to the network through an Ethernet cable.
- Check whether the LAN port LED on the router or switch indicates an active connection.
- Connect another device to the same Ethernet cable and LAN port to verify that both are functioning properly.
- Replace the Ethernet cable with a shorter, known-working cable.
- Try a different LAN port on the router or switch.
Step 3. Verify device discovery and network connectivity
- The camera must meet the requirements for device discovery and communication.
- For local discovery using the VIGI App, VIGI NVR, VIGI Config Tool, VIGI PC Client, or VIGI Local VMS, ensure the camera and the mobile device or computer are connected to the same subnet (IP segment).
- Disable any VPN connection on the mobile device before performing local discovery through the VIGI App.
- If using VIGI NVR, VIGI Cloud VMS, or VIGI PC Client to add devices across different networks, verify that the camera has been configured correctly and can be reached through the network.
- Check that network isolation settings, such as VLAN Isolation, are not preventing communication between devices.
Step 4. Verify the camera IP address
- An incorrect IP configuration may prevent the camera from being discovered.
- Use VIGI Config Tool to discover cameras in the same local network and verify their current IP addresses, including cameras configured with an incorrect static IP address.
- If the camera is configured with a static IP address, ensure that the IP address matches the current network settings.
- Alternatively, check the DHCP client list or connected devices list on the router or gateway to confirm that the camera has obtained an IP address.
Step 5. Reboot network devices
- Restart the network devices in the following order:
- Router
- Switch (if applicable)
- NVR (if applicable)
After all devices restart, refresh the discovery page and search for the camera again.
Step 6. Try another management platform
If the camera is still not detected, try discovering or adding it through another VIGI management platform, such as VIGI App, VIGI NVR, VIGI Config Tool, VIGI PC Client, VIGI Cloud VMS, or VIGI Local VMS.
If the camera still cannot be detected after completing all troubleshooting steps above, contact Technical Support and provide the troubleshooting results for further assistance.
Conclusion
You have now completed the recommended troubleshooting procedures for a VIGI camera that cannot be detected. By checking the power supply, physical network connection, device discovery requirements, and network settings, most camera detection issues can be identified and resolved.
