How to Set Up Hotspot Backup on your TP-Link Deco

Configuration Guide
Mis à jourSeptember 17, 2026

Hotspot Backup allows you to configure a nearby mobile hotspot or Wi-Fi network as a backup internet source. If your primary wired connection fails, the Deco system automatically detects and connects to your pre-configured backup source to maintain your internet access. Once the primary connection is restored, the system switches back seamlessly.

Key Takeaways

  • Hotspot Backup uses a mobile hotspot or another Wi-Fi network when the primary wired internet connection is unavailable.
  • The hotspot must be powered on, within range, and able to access the internet before Deco can use it.
  • You can save multiple hotspots, and Deco automatically selects the best available configured hotspot.
  • Setting a fixed WAN port is recommended when wired clients need internet access during backup operation.
  • Speed Limit and Access Permission help control bandwidth, mobile data use, and which devices can go online through the hotspot.

Requirements

  • Update the Deco app and your Deco units to the latest available firmware.
  • Prepare a mobile hotspot or Wi-Fi network with internet access.
  • Place the hotspot within a stable Wi-Fi range of the main Deco.
