What If You Cannot Remotely Manage TP-Link Routers via TP-Link App?
If you are unable to manage your TP-Link router remotely (via the Deco, Tether, or Aginet app), follow these troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue.
Step 1. Check Your Smartphone’s Internet Connection
Ensure the mobile device with the TP-Link app installed has internet access when you are outside your home network. If the device is offline, remote management will not work.
Try switching between mobile data and other Wi-Fi networks to see if the issue persists.
Step 2. Verify Your Router’s Internet Connection
- Confirm that your router is powered on and connected to the internet.
- Ask someone at home to test the Wi-Fi connection to ensure the router is functioning properly.
- Restart your modem and router if the connection is unstable.
Step 3. Test Local Management
When at home, connect your phone to the router’s Wi-Fi, disable mobile data and VPN (if enabled), and check if you can manage the router locally via the app.
If local access fails despite a working Wi-Fi connection, please try the following steps:
- Use Owner Account. Log in with the original setup email.
- Sign out of the app.
- Relaunch the app and log in again.
Step 4. Change the DNS Server (If Local Works but Remote Fails)
If the router is manageable locally but not remotely, try changing the DNS server following these instructions.
Change DNS on TP-Link Routers/Modems
Change DNS on TP-Link ISP-Customized Modems/Routers
If above troubleshooting still could not resolve the problem, please contact TP-Link Support and provide the following information:
- Your TP-Link ID and MAC address of your TP-Link router
- Screenshot of the error message
- Whether local access works fine on the TP-Link App when connected to the TP-Link Wi-Fi network
- App log:
Collect the system log of Deco app
Collect the system log of Tether app
Collect the system log of Aginet app
