Introduction

Video Summary automatically compiles significant video clips into a short, easy-to-watch summary of what happened throughout the day. It helps you quickly review important events without manually browsing hours of footage—ensuring you never miss a moment.

This feature collects and presents the most relevant clips you may be interested in, delivering them to you daily. You can view, download, delete, or share the generated videos directly from the camera details page.

Please note that the Video Summary is only available after subscribing to Tapo Care.

Requirement

To generate a summary, at least three cloud clips must be uploaded within a single day, with a combined duration of over 30 seconds.

Configuration

Case1How to create/delete a video summary

To create, navigate to Live View page > Tapo Care > Video Summary or Live View page > Playback & Download > Video Summary, then tap to Create the daily summary.

Create the video summary.

To delete, long-press on the video summary you have created and select Delete.

Note: Once deleted, the video summary will be removed, and a new one cannot be made for the selected day.

Case2How to view the video summary

After you successfully create a video summary, you can watch it directly in the app.

If you’d like to view the original recording of a specific clip, simply pause the summary video and tap View This Clip. The app will then automatically redirect you to the corresponding original cloud video.

This allows you to quickly access and review the full context of any highlighted moment.

“View This Clip” option in the app.

Q&A

Q1: How long are video summary reports stored?

A1: Video Summary reports are stored in the Tapo App for 7 or 30 days, depending on your Tapo Care plan (Basic or Premium).

Q2: Why does the “Not enough recording clips” message appear?

A2: This occurs when the camera detects minimal motion—fewer than three clips or a total duration under 30 seconds. In this case, you can try to improve the detection performance of your battery-powered cameras or
non-battery cameras.
