Common Questions about Nest and how it works with Kasa
Nest Home & Away FAQ
How do Kasa and Nest Home and Away work together?
Kasa and Nest work together to simplify leaving or returning home. Whenever the Nest system detects the home is unoccupied, it will also send a message to the Kasa system to trigger a corresponding Away scene, turning off smart lights and more. You can switch between Home and Away from the Kasa app and that will automatically trigger Home or Away actions within the Nest system. During setup, these messages are linked with Kasa scenes that will execute automatically whenever Nest switches between home and away.
How can I set up Kasa and Nest Home and Away?
From the Kasa app, tap the plus sign to add a new device. Tap on "Works with Kasa", then select Nest Home and Away from the list. The Kasa app will guide you through linking your Nest and Kasa systems and setting the desired home and away scenes.
How can I switch my home between Home and Away?
One of the most powerful things about connecting your Nest and Kasa systems is that your Kasa smart home devices can now take advantage of Nest’s Auto Away feature. This means your Kasa lights can automatically switch off when Nest detect no one is home and switch back on as soon as someone arrives home. Of course, you can also manually switch between Home and Away from within the Kasa app by navigating to Nest Home and Away from the device list or from within the Nest app.
What happens when my home switches to Away?
Whenever your Nest system is switched to Away (automatically or manually), it will trigger actions within the Nest system such as setting back the temperature or activating cameras. It will also notify the Kasa system of the change to Away. Your Kasa system will then trigger your linked Away scene, switching off lights, locking doors, etc. eliminating the need to interact with multiple devices or apps.
What happens when my home switches from Away back to Home?
Whenever Nest is switched from Away back to Home, it will trigger a corresponding set of actions within the Nest system and notify the Kasa system to trigger the linked Home scene accordingly.
What if devices don’t react to home and away changes?
You should be able to check the Home or Away status from the Nest and Kasa apps. If they do not stay in sync with a change, you’ll need to check your Nest and Kasa account settings. If they stay in sync but Kasa devices don’t respond, you should check the connectivity of individual devices as well as any Home or Away scene settings from within the Kasa app.
How do I disconnect Kasa and Nest Home and Away?
You can unlink your Kasa and Nest accounts by going to the settings menu from the Nest page in Kasa.
