London, UK, [7th October] 2011 – TP-LINK, global provider of SOHO and SMB networking products, has joined forces with SamKnows, the broadband performance testing specialist, to launch the largest pan-European broadband project mapping and measurement test, on behalf of the European Commission.
The project aims to provide Internet Service Providers (ISP’s), regulators and consumers with an accurate picture of current connectivity and performance across Europe. The results will be used to formulate a pan-European schematic highlighting broadband provision to ensure future planning and offer transparency for consumers paying for broadband connectivity. Building on the resounding success of SamKnows previous projects with Ofcom (UK) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) (USA), TP-LINK has been selected as the preferred supplier for the largest project of its kind, covering all EU Member States and three other European nations.
The TP-LINK TL-WR741ND Wireless N Router will form the project 'Whitebox'. The high specification wired/wireless unit offers 150Mbps, 11N bandwidth, video streaming and VoIP and will provide the 10,000 volunteers from across Europe with a premium product for the duration of their testing experience.

In 2008 Sam developed an innovative broadband measurement technology, which SamKnows has provided free of charge to consumers in the UK and USA ever since. In the UK alone, SamKnows found that broadband performance was less than 50% of advertised speeds.
