Part A: If you are configuring the Range Extender via the WPS/RE button.

It’s recommended to take the RE light as the indication in the WPS process: the RE LED should change from “blinking” to “solid on”, which means that WPS connection is successful. Further, the signal LED light will be on if the connection is successful.

Below is the WPS/RE LED of TL-WA850RE and RE200:

As to how to use the WPS function, please refer to this FAQ:

If you fail to connect the router via WPS, please refer to this FAQ:

Note:

Different Range Extenders may behave differently on RE light.

For example, the RE/WPS LED of TL-WA850RE will keep solid “on” after a successful configuration while RE200’s RE LED will just last “on” two minutes and be off. So if you want to gain more information about Range Extender’s working status, the signal LED lights are the best choice.

Part B: If you have configured the Range Extender.

The Signal lights will give you the exact information that whether you have configured your Range Extender successfully. Once the range extender has connected to the router, the Signal light will be solid “on” (no matter what color it is or how many signal bars there are).

The color or number of signal lights indicates the signal strength that RE gets from the main router, which is just used to help you choose the best location for your RE.

Conclusion

  1. First, RE light of Range Extender is just used to indicate the WPS process. After you press Range Extender’s RE/WPS button, the RE light will start blinking. After several minutes, if RE light becomes solid on, it means WPS process is successful.
